I Built a Free PDF Date Stamp & Approval Stamp Tool (Because Smallpdf Charges for That)
I needed to stamp a few PDFs with dates and approval marks for work. You know the drill — open Smallpdf, upload the file, customize the stamp, download.
Except I hit a wall. Two of my three files were behind the free-tier limit. And I realized: my sensitive work documents were being uploaded to a third-party server just to stamp a date or an "APPROVED" mark across a page.
That shouldn't be the default.
So I built something better.
PDF Date Stamp & Approval Stamp is a free, client-side tool that runs entirely in your browser. No uploads. No accounts. No subscriptions.
What it does:
- Upload any PDF (drag & drop or click to browse)
- Choose between Date Stamp mode — stamp today's date or any custom date with your preferred format (MM/DD/YYYY, DD-MM-YYYY, etc.)
- Or choose Approval Stamp mode — one-click presets for APPROVED, REJECTED, DRAFT, CONFIDENTIAL, or type your own custom text
- Adjust font size, opacity, rotation angle, and color
- Choose how it appears: centered, tiled across every page (mosaic), or placed in the corners
- Download the stamped PDF instantly
Everything happens locally using pdf-lib. Your files never leave your device. The whole thing is a single HTML file with no server component.
Why this matters
Most online PDF tools follow the same playbook: free for one or two tasks, then pay up. Or require an account just to use basic features. And somewhere between "upload" and "download," your documents are sitting on a remote server.
For stamps — which are often used on confidential, draft, or approved documents — that's a privacy problem.
This tool solves all three issues at once: it's free, private, and works offline after the first load.
